 In my opinion and most other fans of Mrs. Pargeter agree that Heaven Tree Trilogy is her
finest work.
An outstanding historical fiction that takes place beginning in the early 1200's in western
Wales. The first book "Heaven Tree"(1960) introduces Harry, a Master Mason who leaves
the country for France to escape a false charge against his life-long friend Adam, who is
also a mason, that would leave Adam mutilated and unable to continue their trade. Harry
becomes commissioned by a tyrant Lord to return to Wales (exonerated of all charges)and
build him a church. In the eye of morality, Harry betrays the Lord who now seeks his
revenge on his beloved Mason. Although Harrys character appears only in the first book
in body, the epic vendetta continues against his blood line in book two The Green
Branch(1962) and book three The Scarlet Seed(1963). Edith allows you to smell the
blood, feel the passion and breathe for honor as few authors can. Never has a book evoked
so many emotions in a read than this saga. Youll be haunted by this book and thirst for
more after its completion. Fans of the Warlord Trilogy should also love this story. |
