I've greatly enjoyed the Sharpe's stories, both books and videos, along with quite a few of your other books. The Last Kingdom has finally made me seriously take note of the author's name. I hope you are able to remain so prolific and outstanding as a novelist. No reply is needed. Just keep on writing and publishing great historical novels.

Mr. Cornwell, I wanted to tell you that I really appreciate the work you have done and look forward to every book you finish. The Starbuck and Arthur series are truly the best books I have ever read. For many years my main topic of reading was Civil War period books and have a large collection of them. That is how I came upon the Starbuck series and absolutely loved it. It brought to life in a much more tactile way a subject I was already very enamored with. I then started to collect other books you have done and have gone from one topic of literature to one author in whatever era he wants to write in, it just doesn't matter. I have now read about half of the Sharpe books and like Sharpe almost as much as Nathaniel. Thanks for the wonderful tales and insight into historical times and places that you make so incredibly clear and alive. A true testament to your work is how depressed I am when I complete one of your series. You just don't want them to end. Rob Bedlion.

You need not answer this message. I just want to tell you that I saw Sharpes Rifles on tv way back and thought that was that. I spotted a book at Barnes and Noble that was authored by Mark Adkin. He praises you and I praise him for bringing the series to light.I especially enjoy the historical notes. No suggestions from me. Why change? See you in your books---Walt

I've read all the Starbuck, Archer's novels. and the Sharpe's books. I look forward to more. I especially enjoy the Starbuck's novels and can't wait to see what Nathaniel has been up to during this very long vacation. A fan, Don Rock

George Washington: There are now several good history and "Novels of History" out that show how important George Washington actually WAS to the American War for Independance. One of the actual "History" books is "1776". The two volume Revolutionary War novel series by Jeff Sharra (Who also has done a great "Novel" series on the US Civil War {Gods & Generals & Last Full Measure}and the little known war with Mexico in "Gone For Soldiers") follows characters such as Washington, Franklin, Greene, Cornwallis, Clinton and the Howe brothers from the battles of Lexington/Concord, Bunker Hill through the siege of Yorktown. Q

Dear Mr. Cornwell, I have been an avid fiction reader for 35 years, but had not read any of your books until 6 month ago. I must say that you are now my favorite author! I started out reading about Thomas and finished that series. It was with some trepidation that I started reading Sharpe's Tiger. Would Sharpe measure up to Thomas? Needless to say, Sharpe is my new hero! Thank you so much for being a great writer. I now have my two boys, aged 13 and 15 reading your books. Best Regards, Ron Ward

Q

Dear Mr Cornwell, I've just finished reading Harlequin and I had to write and thank you for what you do! I haven't been so immersed in a story since reading your Arthurian series last year and can't wait to get hold of Vagabond. As a budding writer I appreciate the level of effort it takes to make something seem so effortless, but the fact you enjoy what you do really comes across and is incredibly inspiring. Thank you also for what your advice to writers. There is so much information on the web about 'how to write' it is easy to become bogged down and uncertain of whether or not you are writing 'right' but in my opinion no one can really tell you how to, only that it can be done. I just love that you love what you do and you aren't afraid to say it...people forget to tell us groundlings about the joys of writing. I actually felt guilty in the beginning because I enjoyed it so much! Maybe when I'm paid to do it it won't feel so illicit. Anyway, I don't mean to take up more of your time, I just wanted my voice to join the many others of gratitude that I have found your stories. Yours sincerely, Elizabeth Beckett Sydney, Australia

Q

I just wanted to thank you for R. Sharpe and Thomas of Hookton. I just finished 30 years in law enforcement and found your work helpful. I state this because I was able to return to another time and see humans with the same simple needs and that allowed me to stay in the present. I sure I'm not making any sense, but thanks anyway. Vern McHenry

Q

Dear Mr Cornwell, I would like to thankyou for the many hours I have been glued to your books. Sharpe's Eagle was the first in 1987 when at boarding school. I am looking forward to the Pale Horseman in October. kind regards, Martin Bailey

This is a note of thanks. Just minutes ago I finished your third Arthur book. I enjoyed every minute I spent reading them. For the past week I have tried to limit myself to just 20 or so pages a day because I am now so attached to Derfel and his family, I did not want to leave them! Thank you again, Laurie
