Bernard, As a follower of Sharpe, I have just finished, Sharpe at Tralafgar. I am a reader of history of all types, from the Etruscan's, Ancient Greece & Rome. I also have a number of books on the Amerrican Civil War and have read up on the American War of Independence. Are you aware that the American's built a Frigate along the French/English design only they were 50 feet or so longer and carried a lot more guns than the English and due to there length, were faster than the English Frigates. There is a book out on Frigates. The interesting fact is that these Frigates appeared to made a difference in the War of 1812, which as you are aware was caused by the British stopping American ships and press ganged English sailors from American Trading Vessels. Regards Edward Palmer

I was aware of it! There's a simply brilliant, awesomely wonderful book called The Command of the Ocean by N.A.M. Rodger - recently published - which has a very good chapter on the various ship designs, including the 'heavy' US frigates.

Re Sharpe's Sword - you mention Edward Costello as a source of information - he was my great great grandfather so you can see why your book is so interesting to me and my family. M E Hawkins

What a splendid ancestor to have! I'm jealous!

Dear Mr. Cornwell, I just discovered your homepage and found out, to my great pleasure, that there are many more Sharpe books to read than the few I managed to find in german translation so far. This is truly good news for me! Oh, and thank you for the Arthur books which are among the best books of my life! Your books are dangerous for someone who likes reading as much as I do- they suck you in, so to speak. Thank you again! D.H.

Hi... I just wanted to let you know, I fully understand your reasons for not writing more Starbuck books just yet, but I sincerely hope you will eventually. Don't worry, I don't expect you to tell me whether or not you are, I understand that you don't know yet. But I have a feeling you will, even if it is many many years from now. I just wanted to say, I very much look forward to reading it if you do write another, and I hope that Thaddeus Bird will come back into the story. And if there is not Starbuck Chronicles Book Five, I very much look forward to reading whatever other books you write instead. Pleasant writing. Jessie

Dear Mr Cornwell, You probably get dozens of such letters a week so I'll try to keep it as brief as possible. I stand truly enraptured by the Arthur books. I've just finished Enemy of God and it was breathtaking. I can hardly wait to get my grubby paws on Excalibur. Not only do I stand impressed by the doubtlessly painstaking historical and literary research you've probably undertaken; but I also applaud your elegant storytelling. Not only I was thrilled at every swordfight and battle, but I was - to my surprise - really moved by Derfel's passion and Ceinwyn's rejection of Lancelot (I'm hardly a fan of love stories, but this one truly touched me). You seem to have managed to appeal to all my difficult tastes at once, and this is why I sound like a drooling "fanboy" ;) But really, it's just that I'm a daydreamer and a lover of History and myth, and all I wanted to say was: thank you for taking my imagination on this wild ride through Dark Ages Britain, and touching me with your masterful storytelling. Sincerely, Gustavo Iglesias, MD Rio de Janeiro Brazil

Thank you for that very kind message. I'm glad you took the time to write.

Hello Mr. Cornwell! I am taking this opportunity to thank you for all of the joy you have brought me. I believe I have read every book you have written and I literally count the weeks until the next Sharpe novel hits the market, or the next in the Archer series or anything else you choose to write. However, I have to admit the Sharpe series is my all time favorite. I am a disabled Vietnam Veteran and you have truly made my life much richer and more enjoyable. Thank you again. Sincerely, Roger E. Burens, Sr.

Read nearly all your books with relish & appreciation of research & historical detail. Robert E. Marcus

Never have I had so many good reads by the same author! Just marvelous! Thank you! Karyl Buff

You have a wonderful talent and I commend you for using wisely. You write 'em- I'll buy 'em. Thanks and Happy Holidays, TJ McCloud

Q

Dear Mr Cornwell, When are you going to make a repeat journey to the UK because I missed an opportunity this year to meet you due to work constraints. Regards, Marc P.S The Last Kingdom is brilliant.

Mr Cornwell your books are fantastic, please can you tell me if you are coming over to England in 2005? Megan Owen

A

Not sure when I'll be in the UK next, but keep an eye on the Diary page as all appearances will be posted there.

Dear Mr. Cornwell I have been a fan of yourr for many years. I have read all the Sharpe Novels but recently just discovered the Starbuck Chronicles. I am a civil war re-enactor and have been a civil war buff for years. As much as I like Sharpe, you just can't go off and leave Starbuck with no ending to this wonderful saga. It's time to give Mr. Sharpe a rest and turn your marvelous talents back to one of your most enduring characters, that being Starbuck. You really can't just leave him sitting after antetiam with no where to go. Really, it's time to get back to work. Respectfully, Court Fraley Capt.Comanding Cobbs Battery, Kentucky Light Artillery,
