The Brotherhood

This is the fifth book in a series of books about an ex-soldier called John Smith.  He has been instructed in the skills of reconnaissance and killing in his past and continues to use these talents to tackle some of society’s most pressing concerns.  He is a grey man and a modern warrior of the shadows, a creature of contradictions who lives without pity or remorse when killing but who is also driven by a code of what is right.  He has been instrumental in setting up an organisation called The Brotherhood, a group of vigilante ex-forces personnel whose aim is to rid the UK of organised crime.  In this up to date nail-biting thriller they burst into action, this time tackling the Albanian mafia in Britain alongside dealing their own form of justice to the British Pakistani gangs who are abusing and raping young vulnerable girls in the north of England.

All ex-soldiers have emotions and memories to deal with from their pasts that come back to haunt them and make their lives difficult.  Some may even take their own lives as a result.  The outcome of a recent tragic mission in West Africa (The Smiling Coast; book 4 of the John Smith series) in which Smith and his friend Nigel have both taken part causes both men to face their demons head on.

This story grips your attention from beginning to end and is best read after finishing the rest of the books in the series so that you can understand the background of John Smith.
