True, I am the author, but I stand by the recommendation. The book goes deeper and wider than than Ernle Bradford's classic take on the subject while maintaining his readability. And what a subject! We are talking Knights of St John, Barbary corsairs, Janissary warriors, Italian condottieri, all gathering on the tiny island of Malta the fate of which would determine the balance of power throughout the entire Mediterranean. The siege lasted the entire summer of 1565 and the outcome was very much in question to the very last.
