The Retreat to Avalon is a historical fiction novel based on the research of British historian, Geoffrey Ashe MBE MFRSL, linking the oldest Arthurian legends with the historical person called "Riothamus" by the Romans, and the events at the end of the Western Roman Empire. Seen from the point of view of Gawain, a young warrior in Arthur's army, it traces the events of 460-470 AD in Britain and Gaul.
