It's 1934 and there's a secret in the Northwest corner of America. Something new. Something deadly. Something that might cause a problem for the Empire of Japan. The Empire wants that secret. It wants it very badly.

Harry Watkins doesn’t care about secrets. Unless they’re his. Harry was a rumrunner; one of those men who used a fast boat and the night’s darkness to smuggle illegal alcohol down from Canada. America was thirsty and business was good. But the calendar says 1934 now and the country has thrown Harry a curve ball. Prohibition just became something they'll talk about in history books. Harry's late night proclivity has vanished overnight.

Joe Kanji isn't an American. He's Japanese with maybe a little American attitude and understanding thrown in here and there. He's never heard of Harry Watkins but like Watkins, his life also has changed.

Two men, two secrets with lives thousands of miles apart seemingly with nothing in common, nothing except Lucy McAllister. Oh yes, they have her in common. They just didn't know it.
