just finished reading your great book on the battle of Crecy.there is a small village just north of me – llantrisant (vale of glamorgan )that provided welsh archer mercenaries under the Lord Despenser. These were the bowmen that cleared the crossing at blanchtec (?) in conjunction with the earl of warwick’s men.So grateful was the black prince after the battle that me made the village a borough and all the men freemen – since known to this present day as ” the black army”.best wishes, Steve Pearce
