Mr. Cornwell, I have purchased and am reading some of your books. I recently finished ‘An Archer’s Tale’. I am degreed in History, a reserve Intelligence Officer and a Technical Writer. I have read military and battle histories my entire life; including dozens of treatises and perspectives on the battle of Crecy. Nonetheless, my heart raced as I read Thomas Hookton’s ‘viewpoint’ of that fight. You also write with a high respect for the medieval period and excellent usage of what is known. Until I read Archer’s Tale, I would have thought it impossible to give the period any vibrancy and authenticity without a kind of bombast that comes from too much detail (some modern fiction writers come to mind). Tolkein said he wanted to entertain and inspire without creating cults (I’m paraphrasing). You achieve that without condescension and with a ‘palatable’ style that will appeal outside of my niche’. Because of that, I will suggest your titles to my wife and friends. I hope you receive a lot of this ‘type’ of praise from your readers–throw this on the pile. Best regards, Brian J. Kelly
