Dear Bernard I have only recently become a fan our your work, and my only regret is that I did not begin reading your novels sooner. You have the very rare gift as a writer of making me, the reader, feel as if I am personally present in the scene I am reading. I have lost count of the number of times that I have “heard” the voices of characters, “tasted” the bitter tang of gunpowder of a musket, “seen” the smoke from cannon fire, even “smelt” the odour of a ship of the line, “felt” the tension or even the din of battle while reading. You have won a fan for life and I will not stop reading your works. I look forward to enjoying many more.
