Just finished The Fort. Great read. Question arises about reportage. On pg. 139 lines 5-6 we get …”swear that I will hear true Allegiance…” Surely the original longhand had “bear” not “hear”. Some later printer misread what was clearly meant to be “bear — the handwritten b and h so easily misread. Would it not be in your and reader’s best interest to fix it in your book? On pg. 403 PP2 &3 “Just say hello to them, Sergeant.” Could this be 18th C usage? OED gives later origin. On pg.420 & 423 “The Hunter…the fastest sailor on the coast,…” OED has sailer the ship and sailor the man.
