Well, I hope you’re happy with yourself, Mr. Cornwell. You have utterly eliminated any reasonable opportunity for other writers to contribute to Arthurian lore. I was planning to write those books someday, but now it seems I’ll have to find something else to do. I have read many different takes on the subject and I can’t imagine any surpassing yours. I recall reading somewhere that you felt that you had lingered a bit too long in the beginning of The Winter King, constructing the milieu. While I agree that it was not as fast-paced as most of your other work, I’d like to offer my humble opinion that I’m very happy you did it that way. I hope you won’t feel too sharp a need as you continue writing to cut away the flesh around your action scenes. You made Derfel and his world real to us. I believe that, rather than simply Arthur’s familiarity, is why these are my favorites of all the books I have ever read.
