Hello Mr Cornwell. I reread Sharpe’s Waterloo this summer and have brought Sharpe’s Tiger with me to China. What your Sharpe’s books tell is how brave the rank and file really were. Yes I know a lot of them were nasty but just to put up with the small minds of the officers and the silly rules is quite something. The history that was taught in school never gave any glory to the common redcoat just to the winning and officers commanding. Not that Wellington should not get the praise but that an equal share to all. Was Alexander great? He lost two thirds of his men going to India. Alexander the short and insecure maybe. Anyway I am enjoying Sharpe’s Tiger with all its detail. Perhaps your books should be part of school history to balance the Yin and Yang but then I would hate to see your books taught by some dreary teacher. So then perhaps it is better to leave your book to those you want to go beyond the narrow confines of education. Regards Nicholas Langrick
