Dear Mr. Cornwell, First I’d like to thank you for the wonderful reading you have supplied me with. I am a self-studied Anglo-Saxonist, and over the past 20 years have read every- and anything I could find on the subject, even opening a charge at Heffers in London (I’m in the US- CT). It is great to know there is such an interest in the coming of the Saxons, the development of their kingdoms, and the coming of the vikings. It is reading material I cannot put down once I begin. The Saxon Tales, and the Warlord Chronicles are, to me, unparalleled works. What is most important to me, other than a great story, is the fact that these books are a great source of knowledge to me. Being American it is difficult to further my early British and A/S education firsthand, so it is important to read your descriptions of the surroundings. More important still, and this is something I try hard to employ when I am doing research (I am working on laying out the development of the Heptarchy, and the Genealogy lists of these kingdoms)is to envision what these men went through day by day. It is easy to read about a battle or time period, but when I read your books and “feel” the actual battles, the feelings, it is amazing. Through your work I am actually able to look at history differently, with common-sense. I can understand the hardships and come to conclusions about things that happened, or didn’t happen, with a different appreciation, and that leads to better analysis of historical events. For this I thank you. Also, if you could keep the Warlord Chronicles going, even through the coming of William, that would be great. I can’t stop reading it.
