Mr. Cornwell. I wanted to express my near-tear-filled thank you for the gift of the Warlord Series of King Arthur books you have given the world. I, ever since I learned of King Arthur as a child, have felt a strong and utterly emotional attachment to the Legend. I have seen and read many versions of the Legend, most of which are of the same adaptation. Your rendition…your version…your twist, shall we say, is the most incredible, and, for lack of a better term, AWESOME version that there is. I have never come across a re-telling of the tale that was so visceral, so genuine, so right. I love Arthur the King, but I love Arthur the man so much more. Derfel is the crucial character missing from any, and all other Arthurian tales, and through him, we can share the life of Arthur and all his friends and enemies, exactly how it may have been. With the blood and the sweat and the brotherhood, all as if you are there, smelling the stench, and feeling the dread and terror and the love for your woman, and of your brother next to you in a shield wall. I dont know, with mere words, how to thank you for creating a sorely needed and much appreciated version of our beloved Arthurian tale. You stripped away all the fantasy of King Arthur without stripping any of the magic away from Arthur and his Knights. Can someone PLEASE make the Warlord books into a movie? Thank you so very, very much for enriching my life with such a desirable, and absorbing passage through which Arthur and Derfel fought, and loved, and built the legend for all of us to adore. Andy P.
