Sir: I am a career police officer (retired from one and into a second) and feel compelled to tell you something. My statement is this: 1) Thank you for your gift(s) to the world 2) words fail me, so just know this: your writings have given me perspective on my life and beliefs that I never knew before; clearly your research into our past and your astonishing ability to tell the tales have resonated in my soul like no other thing I have encountered. Truly amazing. I would make your entire inventory required reading in any war college or police academy, (or, hell, any high school!) for perspective’s sake, if I were King.
