Dear sir…. after all these many years of reading your books I feel that it is time to express my thoughts on the subject. I discovered the Sharpe series whilst living in Australia in the 90s, when I was involved in shooting flintlocks for fun. A friend who shot a Brown Bess suggested that I might enjoy your writing, and I am happy to say that he was right! I devoured the series, pestering librarians in several nearby towns for the copies I couldn’t find. What, in retrospect, I find most amazing is that here you have a very long sequence of books using the same characters and scenarios and yet at no time do these tales become ho hum… unlike alsmost every other author’s similar attempts. That takes genius! I have read everything that you have published thus far, and my only complaint is that you aren’t writing them fast enough! Hahahaha! I jest, sort of… My absolute favourites are the Arthurian series.. I have a passion for the legends of Arthur, and your treatment of them is refreshing and different. Arthur as a flawed human being, rather than some semi-godlike creature, awash with unrealistic chivaly. In fact, at the time I “found” The Winter King, 4 years ago, I was looking for a design for my very first tattoo, age 61, and the Pendragon crest design on your pages is now inscribed upon my right shoulder.. I hope I haven’t transgressed here. Too late anyway! So–this ramble is just to say that of all the historical authors that there are in the world you are the absolute tops for me. Thank you for the privelege of reading your work. Sincerely, John
