Mr. Cornwell- I wanted to write to you to thank you for the incredible way you write battle sequences, specifically shield walls. I remember vividly the first time I read about Lugg Vale in the Warlord Chronicles. I’m not sure if this makes sense to you, but I was sad when I had finished, realizing that I would not experience that joy for the first time again. Although Badon Hill was amazing, it didn’t fill me with the same feeling. I’m sure you can imagine my joy and surprise when I read The Last Kingdom. I startled my wife quite a bit when I started yelling “No,no,no!” when I finished, desperately wanting to read more. I participate in The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) a medieval recreation group that you might be familliar with. Specifically, I love heavy weapons. The joy that me and my comrades feel when we lock shields and receive a charge at an SCA war is the same feeling I get when I read your books. when any new person I meet asks me about what I do in the SCA, I tell them to read the Warlord Chronicles. I tell them that if reading that makes your blood boil, this is the activity for you. I haven’t been wrong yet. Thank you again, Dave Ziegert
