Dear Bernard, I thought your readers might like to know that the City of York (or Jorvik, as the Vikings called it) in England is hosting a Viking festival from the 12-16 February. Part of the festival includes a re-enactment of the Battle of Stamford Bridge, where the Anglo-Saxons under King Harold defeated the Vkings of King Hardrada. I read about this in “The Dalesman’ magazine, where the re-enactors talk about what it’s like to fight in a shield wall. More details of the festival can be found at: www.jorvik-viking-centre.co.uk/getinvolved/festival-invade.htm. I’d love to go, but it’s a bit of a long way from Hong Kong! Warm regard, David Coates.
