Dear Sir, Seasons Greetings to you. I just received a fabulous book as a present. Its name is ‘The Sailors Word Book’ by Admiral Smyth, a re-print of the original published in 1867.It is full of old maritime jargon and revealing vignettes from the 18th and early 19th cent. Odd slang; dry commentary and analysis that is very entertaining. ISBN 1-897030-05-3. I really like your attention to the details of military life, I am sure you would appreciate this book. I have no interest in the book other than I am a one-time sailor with a history degree. It is reprinted by a great tool company,Lee Valley Tools, whose owner is a great success and booklover. Regards Denis Foley.(Born in Married Quarters,Tidworth. My father was R.Q.M.S. Queens Bays 2nd Dragoon Guards.)
