Hi Mr Cornwell, I am 14 years old and a massive fan of your Sharpe series, I am very interested in that period of history. I would love to be an author one day writing historical novels. I have a question which would be really good if you could answer, when were soldiers allowed to leave the army in the 19th century? Was it after a campaign or could they leave when they had served a number of years? And when did the men who had been given the choice of prison or the army leave?
