Great stuff Bernard, always looking forward to a new book. I’ve lost track of the Saxon stories sadly, a situation that will have to be corrected since I’ve discovered the grave site of Aethelflaed round the corner from mine house. Inspiration has struck, they would say, which doesn’t bring me to my question in any way, but this bridge sentence is doing such a damn good job of covering that up with metaphysical confusion that I can now launch into the Matter Itself! I haven’t read Sharpe’s Devil or Stormchild for quite some time, but I’ve been wondering about this from time to time – how closely connected are Nicole’s hideout and Vivar’s prison. The stories do both conclude in about the same sort of area. Same island, even? I hope so; I love these little cross-pollinations when they show up. All the best to you sir!
