Dear Bernard, I have read, I think, all of your ‘historical England’ books and enjoyed them very much. However I live in Malmesbury and was wondering when our town might be mentioned. My hotel was built on what I understand was the former site of one of Alfred’s fortifications and sits alongside the Abbey where King Athlestan was first laid to rest before being moved to Gloucester.
