Sharp-witted Bernard, I just finished the DEATH OF KINGS and am still dreaming in AD 902 time. What a marvelous historical imagination you possess. Your historical note traces a complicated thought process – scant data, but enjoyable, nonetheless. Therein you mention the post Civil War wretched Puritans who recycled Arthurs Crown. As I am more familiar with the New World Puritans than the Old, your exasperation surprised me. As a tenth generation direct descendant of Roger Williams (of Rhode Island fame) I am aware of the immigrant theological arrogance of our early Puritan Fathers – at least those in control of the New World Church. Do you consider those left behind to be as imprudent as those who re-located? What is it about the established the main line church that lends itself to hegemony in spite of valid Biblical constraints to the contrary?
