Hi Bernard, I have just finished reading The Fort and I wanted to say how very much I enjoyed the book. I resisted the temptation to read your note at the beginning and your historical note at the end and dived straight into the story. Half way through I was so engrossed and fired up I went straight to google to see if there was a factual basis. I was really thrilled to discover there was. Knowing the likely outcome of your story did take a little bit away from from the rest of the experience but that was my fault for being impatient. I just love the way you take the history and wind the story around it. I appreciate the way you don’t patronise generally well informed readers like my self by explaining every bit of jargon. Not like some authors, I’m thinking of Stephen Dando Collins who thinks I am unable to understand such difficult to grasp terminology as trireme and quinquereme and feels he has to translate for me into the wholly inappropriate cruiser and battleship. Thank you so very much for transporting me so convincingly into credible versions of history.
