Like many people who have read your books, I am currently reading through all of them. The first book I read was Azincourt and I was hooked (no pun intended). I read through the Sharpe series, the Fort, Saxon Stories, Arthur’s Books and the Grail Quest. I have just begun the Starbuck Chronicle… While many of your books start off with bang, I noticed that Rebel was rather tame.. not in a bad way, but there was a sense of innocence to the beginning. As I read on, I came to the conclusion that this innocence is reflected in how someone like the Colonel, Adam and Starbuck might have prepared for Civil War. They did not know the horrors of war and perhaps they thought it was a bloodless adventure. Is this what you were trying to capture as the story began? The naivety? Regardless of your intent, I feel that Rebel is fantastic because of the pacing and the way Starbuck’s eyes are opened to life, his challenges and the realities of war. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
