Thank you for making me proud to be English Mr. Cornwell and for making me appreciate our history. My Dad always spoke to me of medieval history but it took reading your book “Azincourt” to reawaken my interest a couple of years ago (after having lived in France for five years where they seem to see history through tri-coloured glasses as another author said). And I’m 66 now! Never too late! I’ve read all your medieval era books, twice over at least and the Arthurian books and Stonehenge almost dreading to get to the end of them because I knew I’d miss them. I’ve almost finished reading ‘Agincourt’ by Juliet Barker and have also developed a great interest in the well known Anglo-Saxon poems such as ‘The Wanderer’ which I find heart rending when spoken in that language ( You Tube of course!). A beautiful language which I would love to learn but doubt I’ll get beyond a few phrases,’ wyrd bith ful araed ‘ for example, of course! I’m so looking forward to reading the next
Chronicles and Saxon books. I know you ask not to be sent suggestions etc. for books, but I’d like to mention a legendary hero I remember my Dad telling me about so often when I was a child. Your touch would bring him back to life (I wish!) I’m sure. He lived in a very wet place in England and REALLY hated William the Bastard! Yes, that’s the one! Thank you again for the hours of enjoyment your books have given me.
Sorry, I do rabbit on, but have to say I also love your Danes etc. and I’m really chuffed that Svein Asliefsson a.k.a. the Ultimate Viking may be one of my ancestors through Clan Gunn. Another really interesting historic figure. Books about Viking are good! Bye!
