Both my European historian husband and I love your books, and are generally impressed by the wealth and accuracy of your information.  However, in one area you fall sadly short of that standard, and that is in the realm of horsemanship.  For 30 years we have bred dressage horses descended from French, Swedish, and German destriers.  We cringe when we read your equestrian descriptions, particularly with reference to the use of the leg.  Have you ever used your knee to turn a horse with a heavy saddle?  It is more the calf.  An although you do move the leg back to request a canter, it does not move to the flank.  Also, tugging or yanking on the reins is a mark of a rider’s ineptitude, or confusion.  It does not tell the horse to move forward.  These signals really have not changed since the time of Xenophon.  You owe it to yourself and loyal readers to take dressage lessons.  You might even enjoy it!

Sorry to be negative.  We’ll read your books with joy even though these problems go unchecked.
