I’ve spent the warm months at my home in Eastham for 44 years. Many years ago, I presume on the strength of my published poetry books and individual poems published in many places including 17 in The New York Times. I was asked by “Books In the World” to interview you on the local cultural TV station.I declined respectfully because I had not read enough of your vast output to feel I could justify an interview.
Subsequently I have labored to mine the remarkable compendium of unique books that you have written. So I must state that your erudition, narrative gift, psychological insight and lyrical descriptions are matchless among historical novelists. Moreover, as one familiar with close quarter combat both in military and civilian life, I believe you have no equal in addressing that area, I am grateful for all the knowledge and unique pleasure your books have given me.
