I have just read and enjoyed “The Fort” but wanted to give you feedback that I felt a little in the air about what happened to James Fletcher and his sister. Although not in the story it was also not covered in the historical note. I also thought in cases like this where there are numerous characters and in this case, ships, it would be useful to have some sort of diagram/chart to show their sides and positions etc so I could follow the story better. There were also lots of references to the land/sea area and this could be more elaborate. I enjoy all of your novels Bernard, I like the way in which you portray the history. Cheers.
