I just finished Sharpe’s Triumph. I would like to ask you a question: is there any reason why Pohlman and his subordinates didn’t realize the existence of the vau (that’s the portuguese word we had on the brazilian translation, I’m not sure about the english corresponding word, I belive it’s ford?) between the two villages? It seemed so obvious when Wellesley said: “Never in my life I’ve seen two villages in opposite sides of a river that weren’t connected by a ford” (portuguese version poorly translated back to english by me). Even the villagers that were questioned by Wellesley denied it existence. They were deliberately hiding it for some reason or they were all retards like Wellesley said?
