Hi Bernard,

For those obsessives amongst us, I would like to recap the clues I know that have been  given about the identity of Richard Sharpe’s father.

Take you out, put me in and a horse appears in this happy person!

A Frenchman on the razzle in England

The answer has 8 letters

It is not one of Bernard’s characters (sorry Ken cos Obadiah would be irony personified, and a but creepy 😊 )

Think Irony

Are these accurate? Were there more clues?

It would be ironic if the father was French but also if he was a

…RIFLEMAN??

Sharpes Father…..Was he a Marquess?

Was Sharpe’s  father Louis Cartouche a famous French smuggler and highwayman….IRONIC  that his surname means cartridge in English…an important piece of equipment for a rifleman!!

…….perhaps Louis Mandrin….also a French smuggler

Last guess for now…

Baccy for the clerk…..led me to the smugglers song, by kipling….. in which he was writing about sussex smugglers…..one such smuggler, who was active at the correct time historically to be Richards Father…..who was a minor rogue (and was transported about 1780)….smuggler….and has a French connection…..his name was James Pettitt

Bye for now

Yours in perseverance

Danny
