I have I believe I have seen this Phrase used in the Sharpe books and also other historical fiction works set around the same time period. I have tried to find the meaning of the tiger after the cheer but can only find that it was American in origin and did not appear until some where in the 1850/60’s. As most of the Literary references I can find are british military personnel and long before the mid 19th century this seems to contradict each other. Would possibly remember what your own research found on the subject? Thanks in anticipation of your reply.
