Please forgive what may be an old topic. However, I just discovered this web site( and a great one it is) after reading The Heretic. I have read about 70% of your work which is no small feat owing to your prolicacy. I thoroughly enjoyed all of your European based work but particularly loved the Starbuck Chronicles as well as “The Fort” which made me open my mind to some iconic American legends. However, I had to stop reading Sharpe about half way through. I am relying on memory but the book where Sharpe blew up 500 of his own people to achieve his own ends seems totally out of character for Sharpe. You created this hero in my mind and then ripped him down. I could not go on with the Sharpe series after that. While, to my way of thinking, it was OK to assassinate the character Paul Revere in “The Fort” it was not OK to do it with Sharpe. Interesting, in view of the fact that Sharpe is fictitious but Revere was an American legend. Have you taken heat on this subject in the past ?
