David Baird was an Ensign with the 2nd Queens Royal Regiment in 1776.  He had recently returned with his unit from Gibraltar. He could have met Lizzie Sharpe in September 1776.  If Baird, is his father, it is interesting that in 1780, the 2nd was called out to suppress the Gordon Riots, although Baird has moved on to India with the 73rd by then.  Baird was Grenadier tall.  could also explain Baird’s interest in Sharpe – sees himself?
