Dear Mr Cornwell,

I have been reading and thoroughly enjoying your novels for the past 14 years.  I am currently engrossed in The Winter King for the first time and finding the character of Derfel (whom I have dubbed “Proto Uthred/Aersling”) a most engaging character to get to know.

The apparent similarities between the Warlord Chronicles and The Warrior Chronicles got me thinking about links between your other novels. Obviously The Starbuck Chronicles are linked to Sharpe through the presence of Henri Lassan, but I wondered if any of your other novels contain characters who link them to other stories?

Could it be that there is an ancestor of Uthred or Leofric appearing in Derfel’s Britain? Or is Johnny Rossendale in Sealord the descendant of the child Colonel Rossendale left Jane Sharpe pregnant with before Waterloo?

On an side note of personal thanks, in my 9 month deployment to the Persian Gulf with the Royal Navy it was The Empty Throne and Warriors of the Storm that gave me a welcome escape in my off watch hours! So please keep up the fantastic adventures of Uthred; I have been enjoying them since I was a teenager and am eager to see how the story ends for him!

All the Best,

Lt J P Robson RN
