I’ve read a lot of hour books over the last few years, and I’ve actually bought the “Last Kingdom” series in hardback. That series is definitely a keeper. I’m also a student of Roman roads, obsessed you might say, and I have just one question. In one of the later books, probably The Pagan Lord, Uthred destroys the Roman bridge over the Tame at Tamworth. It’s highly probable there was such a bridge, on a road running from Watling Street to the fort just west of Tamworth. I’ve not found any references to such a road. Is it an informed guess?
