Dear Mr Cornwell,

I’ve been a fan of your books my whole life, alltough my life hasn’t been that long yet, first reading them in Dutch and now reading them in English. I don’t think there is any one of your books that I haven’t read. So before I ask my question I would just like to thank you for all the great books you have written.

I am a History student and during one of the more informal meetings we have during the year the subject of the American civil war came up. We discussed differentiating opinions on the southern cause and how it still affects the debate today. This made me wonder. Is one of the reasons you’re not writing another Starbuck book that there is now a lot more hostility towards the south (during the civil war) than there was, around 25 years ago, when the books came out? And have you yourself changed of opinion when looking at the southern cause? For example, do you still hold General Lee in the same high regard?

I’m really looking forward to your answer,

With kind regards,

Steven Paas
