Mr. Cornwell,
I am writing you today simply to say “Well done!” I have long enjoyed historical fiction, since the first time I picked up an alternate history novel by W.E.B. Griffith. I was reading one of his books on Kindle several years ago, and your name appeared as a recommended author. I haven’t looked back since. I very quickly devoured your Last Kingdom Series, and am notified by email each time a new one is available. Since I am currently (impatiently) awaiting the publishing of the next book in the series, I decided to read the Starbuck Chronicles.
I grew up in the American South, and have always loved Civil War history. So much so that I insisted my 12th birthday party be held at Fort Sumter (I am a native South Carolinian). I have voraciously read as much Civil War history as I can get my hand on, from biographies of renowned officers such as Jackson and Longstreet to battlefield accounts and personal letters. Your Starbuck series does this period a great justice. Thank you for your immense research and for doing justice to the average infantryman and for capturing his essence. While I know that no new Starbuck books are in the works quite yet, do know that I eagerly await the return of the “Boston Yankee in General Lee’s Court”, and will begin delving into the vaunted Sharpe books as soon as I finish the last book of the Saxon Chronicles.
Thank you for capturing my imagination and transporting me to such fantastic worlds.
