Hi Mr. Cornwell,
I just discovered you through The Last Kingdom on Netflix. I taught British and American lit for decades, and I’m totally enthralled by your foundation epic. So brilliant! Recently retired, I am writing about my own father’s World War II experience as a Canadian soldier serving in England and Italy. The Canadians broke through the Hitler Line, the last German defensive line before Rome. My father was there on the morning of May 23, 1944, when all hell broke loose.
Only he wasn’t my birth father, as I found out last year at 72 years old! That man was another Canadian soldier, linking me, as I found out through Ancestry, to the Vikings from Norway who invaded the Isle of Man. So you can see why I’m suddenly into the Viking stories. Also, I was born in England right after WWII and have a deep love for the country of my birth. I’m American, became naturalized at eighteen, was educated here, and taught in Rhode Island for four decades.
If you do any bookstores or other talks in the New England area, I want to be there. I’ll be looking for them! And thank you again. Although I have just discovered you, you are already a major light in my universe!
All the best,
Marion Wrye
