I am rereading the Sharpe series after many years and particularly enjoy Sharpe’s Havoc.  I read in your notes that you did not know what happened to Major Dulong.  I did a bit of digging and came up with this article on Major Louis Etienne Dulong and the 31st Leger written by Didier Davin

http://frederic.berjaud.free.fr/Articles_de_Didier_Davin/31eLeger/31e_Leger.html

According to this article it appears that the Major was carried by his men throughout the retreat and that he recovered from his wounds.  He was made Colonel of the 31st Leger on Sept 19th 1809 and then was transferred to the 12 Leger.  Again according to this article he continued his career under the restoration and had begun calling himself Dulong du Rosnay.

I did not verify any of this with source documents but he certainly had a brilliant and somewhat crazy career being wounded many times.  He must have had a charmed life.  I was glad he survived the wars.

Thank you for your many great books.
