Dear Bernard

I have just finished Sword of Kings, which I enjoyed very much.  Thank you.   As I got to the end, however, something you wrote puzzled me and I have been trying to figure it out since. On page 327 Athelstan tells Uthred that he doesn’t need to worry about Eadgifu’s sons, saying that “of course” he will take care of them, “they are my nephews”.  Aren’t the boys actually his brothers?

I’m not one to pick nits but surely having Aethelstan refer to Eadgifu’s sons as his nephews (pg 327) is a bit of a howler?  I don’t really care much about the error itself and am more curious about the process — i.e., how a mistake of this magnitude gets past what I imagine to be the army of editors/pre-readers involved in the publication of a book like this.  But perhaps that’s my mistake and there is no such army?

Loved it, of course, and am already grieving the fact that there will likely only be one more.
