Hello Bernard,

I am a big fan of Richard Sharpe, and although I have not read the books I have a set of the DVDs based on the books which I have viewed on several occasions. Please excuse me if my question could have been answered by reading the books.

As I understand it, Sharpe was an officer in the 2nd Battalion of the 95 Rifles. From the creation of the 95 Rifles through to the Battle of Waterloo, my Grand Uncle, Sir Amos Norcott was the commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion. The TV series makes no mention of Sir Amos and often seems to jump rank-wise from Sharpe to The Duke of Wellington ( a close family friend of the Norcotts including Sir Amos). I realize that the focus of the books is on a fictional character , but did I miss something?

Regards,

Nick Norcott
