Hi Bernard!
I want to comment at how great it is for you to always respond to your fans. I’m sure its very time consuming and you probably tire of all the “When is the next Starbuck coming?” questions….but it is certainly appreciated.
I have been reading you for so many years…I have all your books and just want you to know the profound sense of comfort and satisfaction I get when I crack the first page of the latest “Cornwell”. I fondly recall the days when it seemed you were producing two a year but I guess its selfish to expect you not to have a life other than writing. As I have aged, you have been constant positive in my life through good times and bad, and I’m sure there are many more who feel the same way!
In addition to the great books, I feel you have spawned an entire generation of excellent historical fiction authors all striving to follow in your footsteps – so you are technically the “Godfather of HF”. We all are better off because of it!
To me the Arthur trilogy is still your masterwork! I have read it 5 times now…leaving just enough years in between to make it feel fresh again. Would love to see it in the hands of a high end HBO style production company to make it come to life.
Now that the massive Uthred series is finished I look forward to you hopefully doing more new stand alone stuff in the vein of Stonehenge, The Fort, Sandman or smaller series like Thomas of Hookton. The classics are great but its always exciting to see you cover new ground. Having said all that, have you ever considered covering the pre Roman Britain era with the tribes… or more of the post Roman era as everything was crumbling? I find those times extremely interesting and it would be fertile ground for a master storyteller. Also, I know you always decline Roman stuff….but the Boudicca tale in your hands would be the greatest thing ever!!! Please consider it!!
Many thanks and much happiness to you and yours!
