Your correspondent Louise Hoare referred to her hero Harry Smith in her recent post. I expect you both know this already, but thought I’d mention it anyway.The towns of Harrismith and Ladysmith in South Africa are named after him and his wife Juana. They’re about 80 kms apart, on either side of Van Reenen’s Pass, on the main road between Johannesburg and Durban. Several other towns are linked to them, but those are the main ones.
