Dear Mr Cornwell, Thank you for reading this message, first of all I would like to say that love the Sharpe stories, I think Sean Bean portrayed Sharpe brilliantly. I must admit that I have an ulterior motive for sending this message to you as I am hoping that you may be able to help me. I am a family history researcher based in Scotland and I am trying to trace a family line. My client has traced her line back to a Joseph Stewart who was in Chile from 1818 to a date unknown. He was in Chile long enough to have fathered at least two sons to different women. I have found a Joseph Stuart who was born in Scotland in 1800 and when he died he was a Captain in the 11th Light dragoons, he was on half pay. this was around 1853. I am not expert enough on military history so My problem is that I can not find anything which places the 11th Light Dragoons in Chile. Then I remembered that SHARPE had been to Chile. Yes I know Sharpe is fictional but I wondered if you had any historic proof that the Dragoons were in Chile or was it all fiction?
