Dear Mr. Cornwell,

I am currently in the middle of re-reading Enemy of God for what is probably the 4th or 5th time. I am already nostalgic for Winter King and looking forward to Excalibur. I felt compelled to write and let you know how often I refer to these books and use them in conversations about philosophy, political theory, human nature, religion. I rarely meet characters in books who are so true. I rarely read historical fiction books that don’t shy away from the realities of the past, its values, its beliefs, and its brutality.

Multiple times in my daily life I find myself saying, “you have to laugh or else you’ll weep yourself to death.”

The way people say they can listen to a Bach piece twenty times and hear a new melody — that is the way I feel when I read these books.  I had to let you know.

Thank you very much.

Jane
