I have been “binge reading” my collection of Sharpe books in their earlier order in preparation for Sharpe’s Storm and was confused by the appearance of Tom Gerrard as a Captain in the Portuguese army using his tinderbox to fatally blow up the powder wagon to defeat Le Loup’s troops but then later appearing as a Sergeant and greeting Sharpe as he joined General Hill.  I have assumed that the frequent changes in Sharpe’s rank between Captain and Major were merely proof reading errors.  I have reconciled some books on the basis of appearance of Theresa, terminating with her death at the hands of Obediah Hakeswill.  I also noticed that Sharpe had contact with :Daddy” Hill at Talavera but later Sharpe denied meeting earlier.  Given the sequence, I suspect that it is impossible to retro-correct.   I am currently re-reading Sharpe’s Regiment with Sharpe’s Storm awaiting.
