Sir, I am a great fan of your books. As a US Army Ranger veteran of six combat tours, I know of no one that can make battles and combat come to life as you have the gift to do. I also say this with great admiration as a military historian. There are few works of non fiction I have learned as much from. I am a great fan of the Saxon Tales. This may seem fastidious or an unintended criticism of your artistic license but I am somewhat uncomfortable with the vitriolic nature of the portrayal of priests and Christianity. It feels blasphemous to even read some of it. Just curious about that. I know the Vikings or Norsemen initially attacked churches enthusiastically but eventually accepted the Faith. I dispute the idea that some historians try to put forward that Christianity emasculated various warrior cultures. The crusaders and Orders of warrior monks flies in the face of that. I thank you again for the great works which have sustained and inspired me thru many long nights deployed. Please keep it up – especially with the US Civil War. Sincerely LTC Jim Lechner Afghanistan
