Dear Mr. Cornwell, First, let me state that I am a truly massive fan of your work, and in some ways, it seems as if you are taking the reigns of the historical fiction genre from the late Patrick O’Brien, whose many words I have also cherished for years. It almost pains me to bring this up, but I’ve been reading the Grail Quest trilogy, and really enjoying it, but it seems to me that you may have made a simple error that was missed by you and your editors. You mentioned corn in your books… Specifically, “corn babies,” and “corncrakes”… Yet maize is native to the Americas, and was not introduced to Europe until more than a hundred years after your novel is set. Noting this, especially in an email to you feels sadly pedantic, and I truly apologize for that, but I needed to know if it was a simple oversight, or done deliberately – was there a grain called corn in the middle ages?? Again, I’m a huge fan, and will continue to read your work voraciously. Keep up the excellent scrivening, I look forward to many more quality books from you! Sincerely, Kris
